Bunta Fujiwara (藤原 文太, Fujiwara Bunta) is a character from the 2005 Hong Kong movie, Initial D.

He is the owner of the Fujiwara Tofu Store and the original owner of the Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX (AE86) that his son, Takumi, drives.

Unlike his anime and manga counterpart, he is presented as being an alcoholic and as being physically abusive towards Takumi.

History[]

19 years before the beginning of the film, Bunta was the fastest racer in Gunma. He was friends with Yuichi Tachibana, and at some point told his fellow racers not to buy from his gas station, as his prices were expensive. He gave up racing in order to get married and have kids, and he started running a tofu store. At some point his wife left him, leaving him to raise his son, Takumi alone. Because of this he became alcoholic, and acted abusively to Takumi.

5 years before the film, Bunta's haemorrhoids were acting up, leading to him sending a 13 year old Takumi out on tofu runs. On one occasion Takumi broke a load of tofu, causing Bunta to beat him. The next day he gave him a cup of water, instructing him not to spill a drop. Though slow in the beginning, he would eventually become very quick on the runs.

Trivia[]

  • In order to make Bunta appear to be a drunkard in the film, Anthony Wong drank alcohol throughout filming[1].
