Chapter 006

Natsuki's Secret (なつきの秘密・・!?, Natsuki no Himitsu..!?, "Natsuki's Secret..!?") is the sixth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

On the school's roof Natsuki tells Takumi her secret, that she's just bought a new swimsuit, which embarrasses Takumi. She continues to tease him about it, and the two finally agree to go to the beach on Sunday.

At the tofu store, Iketani finally meets Bunta. He asks him if he's the legendary racer that Yuichi had told him about, but Bunta denies it. Iketani persists, asking him to hear him out.

Back at school, Natsuki is gossiping with her friend, Shiraishi. The two pass Takumi, and Natsuki calls him by a nickname, much to his distaste. Shiraishi asks if the two are friends, saying she thinks he's weird.

Bunta sympathises with Iketani over how tough the racers on Akagi are, but declines his offer to race on behalf of the SpeedStars. Undeterred, Iketani asks him if he can teach him, but Bunta turns him down again, telling him that there's nothing he could teach him in a couple of days, and that the only way he can learn is to practice the course. Iketani leaves, but tells Bunta that he'll probably see him again.

On Akina that night, Iketani heads on his practice runs, but is unable to make any improvements. He heads into a corner, but doesn't realise there is an oncoming car.

Tokyopop/Kodansha USA (2019) version[]

  • Natsuki tells Takumi she bought a new bikini in this version, despite it not being shown as one later on. This is possibly a translation error, as the original uses the word for swimsuit.
  • The nickname Natsuki calls Takumi, Tak-kun, is changed to Taki, as Tak is already Takumi's nickname in this version.
  • A brief scene of nudity featuring Natsuki was censored in the Tokyopop release, this was later restored in the Kodansha USA rerelease.
  • Very is misspelled as "verey", this is corrected in the Kodansha USA rerelease.
  • Bunta mentions the RedSuns being tough even back in his day. This is a translation error, as in the original he's talking about Akagi's racers in general.

Kodansha USA (2024) version[]

  • A translators note is added to say that ¥140 is around $1.40
    • This was incorrect at time of release, as ¥140 was closer to 93¢.
