The Vast, Wide Sea (海は広いね大きいね, Umi ha Hiroi ne Ōkī ne, "The Ocean is So Big and Wide") is the fourteenth chapter of Initial D.
Plot[]
At the five hairpins, Ryosuke explains to Keisuke that Takumi was able to overtake by hooking his wheels into the gutter. He decides to put the RedSuns' trip to Myogi on hold in order to focus on beating the Eight-Six.
The next day, Yuichi visits the Fujiwara Tofu Store, and reluctantly gives Bunta a lift to a business meeting. They talk about the race the night before, and Bunta says he was surprised when Takumi told him he enjoyed the race. He imagines its because Takumi's been forced to do it for work for years, its merely a routine for him, whereas it was exciting to them when they were young.
In Niigata, Takumi and Natsuki are on a date at Kashiwazaki Beach. Natsuki tells Takumi that she normally gets carsick on a long car journey, but that his driving was so smooth that she was fine. Takumi zones out thinking about the race the night before, and how he had actually enjoyed driving for once. Natsuki pulls him back to earth, and asks him if there's anyone he's interested in. He tells her there's someone he keeps thinking about, and she echoes his answer.
At the gas station, Iketani, Kenji and Itsuki talk about the race the night before. Itsuki agrees to help get Takumi to join the SpeedStars, on the condition that he can join as well, as soon as he gets a car. Iketani says he'd love to ride in the passenger seat while Takumi went on a downhill run, which the others agree with.
At night, Ryosuke practices on Akina. Spectators watch on in awe, but are shocked when an unrecognised black R32 GT-R follows shortly behind.
