I'm Not Afraid of Any GT-R! (オレはGT-Rなんざ怖くねぇ, Ore ha GT-R Nanza Kowaku nē, "I ain't afraid of no GT-R.") is the nineteenth chapter of Initial D.
Plot[]
Keisuke is shocked that Takumi doesn't want to race, as he thinks that he could easily win. Takumi insists to Keisuke that he isn't a racer and doesnt have to race for no reason. Keisuke questions why he would have put in the time and effort to become such a good racer, and brushes off Takumi when he says it's only part of his job. He tells Takumi that he needs to think of why he drives, that if he loves driving then he's a racer, and a racer wouldn't back down from a challenge. He says that he was going to tell him what the GT-R's weakness is, but he won't as he clearly doesn't care for racing. Keisuke speeds off, and Takumi tries to convince himself that he has nothing to prove to anyone.
At the gas station, Itsuki agonises over the upcoming race, and decides that if Takumi won't race he'll go up to Akina and apologise to the NightKids himself. Yuichi overhears this, and gets an idea of how he may be able to help.
Bunta drives the Eight-Six to make some modifications.
After his shift, Yuichi pulls Takumi aside to talk with him about the GT-R. He feigns that Takumi would have no chance against such a powerful car in order to make Takumi want to prove him wrong, a tactic he used to use on Bunta. The tactic works, and Takumi leaves with full intent to race, much to Yuichi's satisfaction. Takumi gets home, only to realise Bunta had closed the shop for the evening and taken the Eight-Six with him.
On Akina, the crowds are excited to see the Eight-Six race again.
Takumi frantically tries to reach Bunta, calling all of his regular bars to no avail.
