Wild Deathmatch (狂気のデスマッチ, Kyōki no Desumacchi, "Deathmatch of Madness") is the thirty-second chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

On Akina's downhill, Iketani is amazed that Takumi is able to get used to his Silvia so quickly. Takumi performs a breaking drift through a corner, allowing Iketani to get a good look at his technique.

Returning to the top of the mountain, Kenji and Itsuki are surprised when Iketani tells them he has no idea how Takumi's breaking drift works. He explains that Takumi is on another level from him, and that he can't even use his driving as an example.

Suddenly, Shingo arrives. Iketani confronts him, demanding an apology for ramming him before, but Shingo just mocks him for being slow. He says that if he really wants an apology, they'll have to beat him on the downhill using his rules. Takumi angrily accepts the challenge and starts up the Eight-Six, despite Iketani telling him not to listen to his taunts. Unable to change his mind, Iketani asks Shingo what the rules are, and is shocked to hear that he wants a duct tape deathmatch, where both drivers tape their right hand to the wheel, preventing them from turning effectively.

At the start line, Iketani begs Takumi not to race, but he reasons that Shingo also has the same handicap, and refuses to lose to him.

Localisation Differences[]

Kodansha USA (2024) version[]

  • All mentions of the chassis code of the Civic - EG6 - are changed to SiR2 for unknown reasons
    • In the Kodansha USA release the i in SiR2 is a different typeface from the rest of the text.[10] This is possibly because the typeface doesn't support lowercase "i"s.
  • For some bubbles, the typesetting is visibly poor, with words clipping out of the text bubbles[11].
