The End of Summer (ジ·エンド·オブ·サマー, Ji.Endo.Obu.Samā, "The End of Summer") is the sixty-third chapter of Initial D.
Plot[]
Mako suggests to Iketani that the two of them should meet at 8 that evening at the Kamameshi billboard where they met, and they can go spend the night at a love hotel.
Sayuki and Takumi go down the water slide together, leaving Itsuki and Kenji to share a trip down.
By the pool, Iketani asks Mako about past loves. She tells him that she used to love a racer when she was in high school. She says that her friends dragged her out to see a race, and that she started racing because she thought she might get a chance to be closer to him. She never even tried to talk to him, but that she eventually stopped loving him quite so much. Mako leaves to make a phone call, and her wallet falls out of her bag. Iketani picks the wallet up, and sees the photo inside of Ryosuke Takahashi in his White Comet days. He realises that she had a crush on him, and he becomes dejected.
On the drive back, Itsuki and Kenji talk about the girls. Kenji notices that Iketani is glum, but Iketani tells him that he's just tired.
At the gas station, Iketani apologises to Yuichi for taking the day off, but he says that he doesn't mind. Iketani tells him that he doesn't stand a chance with Mako, and mentions her crush on Ryosuke.
Mako arrives at the Kamameshi billboard, and is surprised that her heart is beating so fast.
Yuichi calls Iketani an idiot, telling him that crushes don't mean anything. He tells him that she chose him over anyone, that she likes him. He's shocked to hear that Iketani was supposed to meet her at 8PM, as it's 8:30, and he tells him to drive as fast as he can to meet her, or he'll fire him. Yuichi knows he'll never make it, but he needs to try.
