The Plan to Turbocharge the Eight-Six (Part 1) (ハチロク ターボ化計画パート1, Hachi Roku Tābo ka Keikaku Pāto 1, "Eight-Six Turbo Conversion Plan Part 1") is the eightieth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

Itsuki becomes annoyed with Seiji, and tells him that the Eight-Six hasn't lost to anyone. Seiji goads him, saying that the drivers in Gunma must not be good. Kyoichi tells him to stop, and explains to Itsuki and Takumi that while they respect the skill of the Eight-Six's driver, the Eight-Six itself isn't a very capable race car. Seiji and Kyoichi leave, and Itsuki is annoyed that Takumi didn't back him up. Takumi tells him that he doesn't think it was worth arguing with them, and that he'd rather prove them wrong in a race. Itsuki thinks Takumi could win against them, but Takumi doesn't think that they'd accept a race with him. Itsuki realises they could put a turbo in the Eight-Six.

The next day at the gas station, Kenji and Iketani are shocked to hear what Seiji and Kyoichi had said. They agree with Itsuki, that the Eight-Six would benefit from an upgrade. The SpeedStars begin imagining how the Eight-Six could be with more power, but Takumi knows Bunta wouldn't let him increase it because it would use more fuel. Yuichi asks Takumi if he'd like the car to be more powerful, and he tells him that he hasn't driven another car, so he doesn't have anything to compare to. He says that he thinks he has plenty of power on the downhill, but Yuichi thinks he'd change his mind if he ever lost.

On Akagi, Kyoichi meets with Ryosuke.
