A Creeping Doubt (ふくれていく疑惑, Fukureteiku Giwaku, "Growing suspicion") is the ninety-ninth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

Ryosuke says that he's spoken with the other teams on Akagi, and they've all agreed to allow Emperor to practice alone on the course. Keisuke doesn't understand why they're being so nice to them, but Ryosuke says it wouldn't be worth racing an opponent who hasn't practiced. He reminds Keisuke that the course is a public road, and anyone is allowed to drive on it.

At the Fujiwara Tofu Store, Takumi can't stop thinking about the phone call he had received. He doesn't believe it, and imagines it must be someone jealous from school.

On Akagi, Seiji wonders why the roads are so empty, and Kyoichi tells him that the RedSuns are trying to tell them they can beat them no matter how much they practice. Another member of Emperor arrives, and gives Kyoichi some information he had requested: where the driver of the Eight-Six works. Kyoichi orders the other members of the team to do five more runs, and to memorize the entire course.

The next day at the gas station, Iketani and Itsuki notice Takumi spacing out again, and wondering what exactly he's thinking about. Kyoichi pulls up in his Evo III. He challenges Takumi to a race on Akagi, and explains that he wants to prove that he was right back when they met at Lake Akina, that the Eight-Six isn't a capable car for racing anymore. He says that he won't be pulling his punches, and that the race will be over in seconds. He tells him that if he's serious about racing he'll accept, and that he expects he'll see him there. Kyoichi leaves, and the SpeedStars are shocked by his request. They tell Takumi to ignore him, and he says that he isn't intending on going anyway because he wouldn't want to interrupt the tension between the RedSuns and Emperor.

At the Fujiwara Tofu Store, Takumi receives another phone call.
