Beyond Saving (再起不能, Saiki Funō, "Beyond Recovery") is the one hundred and eighth chapter of Initial D.
Plot[]
Takumi sits in the driver seat of the Eight-Six, and feels guilty for the damage he had caused to the Eight-Six, realising only now how much he had loved it. He holds out hope that the car can be repaired.
Sometime later, Bunta pulls up in a flatbed truck, much to Takumi's shock. Bunta examines the engine, and loads the car up unto the truck. The two drive home, and Takumi tells Bunta that he's saved up some money that they could use for the engine. Bunta tells him that there's no point, as the doesn't want to repair the engine. Takumi complains that he doesn't want the Eight-Six to have a different engine, as it'd feel different. Bunta tells him that he'd fix it as soon as he could if it was worth doing, but there's nothing they can do to repair it. Bunta comforts Takumi, patting his head, and telling him that the engine would have blown eventually, he just had the misfortune of being the driver at the time.
The next day, Itsuki notices that Takumi seems more spaced out than usual. Takumi is surprised Itsuki could be so happy in the morning, but he reminds him that its the day of the RedSuns battle with Emperor. He asks if the two of them could take the Eight-Six like they did for the races on Myogi.
