Chapter 164

Strategies Intertwined (からみあう戦略, Karamiau Senryaku, "Intertwined Strategies") is the one hundred and sixty-fourth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

Ken tells Kai that he needs to acknowledge that Takumi is his fastest opponent yet, and that he shouldn't underestimate him. He instructs him to let Takumi take the lead, and then to bide his time until he can overtake him at a specific hairpin turn. As Kai leaves, Ken hopes that Kai will win, so that he can finally get even with Bunta.

At the top of Irohazaka, Kai tells Emperor that he's going to be facing off against the Eight-Six, mocking Kyoichi for being unable to beat Takumi before.

Takumi and the SpeedStars arrive on Irohazaka. Kai realises that the Eight-Six is the same one that passed him on Akina, and that Bunta must have been the one driving. Kai is able to tell that Takumi is skilled, something he didn't pick up on before. Iketani asks Takumi if Bunta had given any advice, but Takumi says he'd just said to not give up.

Iketani gives the countdown, and the race begins. Iketani notices that the MR2 should have been quicker off the line than the Eight-Six, but that the new engine let Takumi take the lead. Kai realises just how powerful the Eight-Six is.
