Special Traits of the Midship (ミッドシップの本領, Middoshippu no Honryō, "The Midship's Special Qualities") is the one hundred and sixty-fifth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

Kai thinks to himself that he didn't even need his dad's advice, as he's ready to make his move whenever he can.

At the finish line, an Emperor member tells Seiji and Kyoichi that the Eight-Six has taken the lead. Seiji doubts that Kai can regain the lead, but Kyoichi tells him that he'd made the same mistake, as he was certain he could overtake somewhere along the course. He thinks if Kai doesn't go all out against the Eight-Six, he'll join them in having lost to it. He tells Seiji that the leaves on the course might be a factor in who wins, as both cars are two-wheel drive and are more likely to slide on them.

The narrator explains that having the engine in the rear of the MR2 keeps its rear wheels firmly planted on the ground, but that the lack of weight in the front increases chances of understeering. Kai speeds along after the Eight-Six, perfectly braking and accelerating, avoiding understeer by shifting weight.
