Double Aces (ダブルエース, Daburu Ēsu, "Double Ace") is the one hundred and ninety-fourth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

Fumihiro wakes Ryosuke, who had been sleeping in one of Project D's vans since they left Gunma. He asks Fumihiro to greet their opponents.

Fumihiro introduces Project D to Seven Star Leaf, and tells them that they only want one night of practice before the race. Atsuro is surprised that they only have two cars with them, but Fumihiro tells them that they only need the two, one for uphill and one for downhill. Fumihiro walks away, and Atsuro is surprised by how professional Project D act. He wonders if they're more than just a normal team, but Toru doubts that they'll be able to win, as they have more experience on the course.

Ryosuke tells Takumi that he should use the nights practice to fill in any gaps in his knowledge of the course that he had gotten from the tape they had recorded. He echoes the same advice to Keisuke, before sending the pair off on their practice runs. Ryosuke discusses the settings on the Eight-Six with Shuichi Matsumoto, Takumi's mechanic. Ryosuke tells him that he should tell Takumi, as it would be good for his growth even if he doesn't understand yet.

Toru heads off on his runs, and Atsuro wonders if Toru is correct, that Project D don't stand a chance at winning.

The next day, the locals are surprised that Project D are ready to race after one night.

Localisation Differences[]

Tokyopop/Kodansha USA (2019) version[]

  • Fumihiro is mistakenly called Hiroshi.
  • Toru says he's never lost to another "Ten Six". This is a mistranslation, as the Japanese uses "Ten Roku" (テンロク), which is commonly used to describe 1.6L engined cars[6]. It's possible a translator mistook the "Ten" for the English 10.
