The Trap (策略, Sakuryaku, "Strategy") is the two hundred and twenty-first chapter of Initial D.
Plot[]
Takumi is glad that Ryosuke had told him not to look into his rearview mirror, as even without it he can feel the pressure that Daiki is applying. He keeps his attention on the road, and follows Ryosuke's second piece of advice.
At the finish line, Keisuke asks Ryosuke about his second piece of advice. Ryosuke explains that he had told Takumi to keep his revs at two thousand under his upper limit, at around 9000rpm. He hopes that if Takumi can stay ahead until the end of the first round then they'll have the advantage on the second lap.
Takumi struggles to stay ahead of Daiki without breaking his 9000rpm limit. The narrator explains that this isn't the first time Takumi has raced below his engine's limit, as he had done his tofu runs on Akina with the new engine before he knew it could go to 11,000rpm. Takumi follows Ryosuke's first piece of advice and keeps his eyes ahead of him, ignoring all the tricks that Daiki had been using to throw him off. The narrator says that the Todo School had under-estimated Project D, as they had failed to account for the team's strategist, Ryosuke.
