Awaiting the Chance (虎視眈々, Koshitantan, "Waiting for an Opportunity") is the two hundred and twenty-sixth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

Daiki realises that he had messed up by putting too much strain on his tires too soon. The spectators realise that Daiki is matching his best time, and wonder how someone could keep up with him at that pace. The narrator explains that Takumi's success here is due in part to Ryosuke's plan. Limiting the revs in the first run had made Daiki think he would be able to pass early on, causing him to wear down his tires and breaks, whereas Takumi had just focused on driving, keeping his wear to a minimum.

At the bottom of the course, Keisuke is amazed that Ryosuke's advice had given them such an advantage. Ryosuke explains that he'd just taken advantage of the Todo School choosing not to watch them practice. He says their window of opportunity to pass is slim, and hopes that Takumi will be able to take advantage of it.

Takumi notices that Daiki is slowing down, and thinks that it must be because of his tires. He realises that he has to make his move now, while his tires still have grip.
