Window of Opportunity (突破口, Toppakō, "Breakthrough") is the two hundred and twenty-seventh chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

Daiki is surprised by Takumi's sudden increase in speed, and realises that he must be trying to pass him. He vows not to let him get by on his home course.

At the finish line, Keisuke asks when Takumi will have his opportunity. Ryosuke says that while being passed, there will always be a moment where your gears give your opponent an opening, you can either shift or lose control for just a second. Kenta realises he understands, saying that on Akagi there were several places where he was redlining but had no opportunity to shift and speed up, so he just had to deal with it for a few seconds. Keisuke finally understands Ryosuke's plan, hiding the top 2,000rpm means that Takumi can accelerate for longer before shifting.

Takumi takes the outside of a turn, setting him up perfectly to take the inside on the following hairpin. With Daiki unable to block him, Takumi overtakes.

Tokyopop/Kodansha USA (2019) version[]

  • A line accidentally attributes the plan to hide Takumi's revs to Keisuke, as he says it was "my second piece of advice". This is a mistranslation, as the line in the original Japanese is him finally understanding why they were hiding the revs.
