Hidden Agenda (モチベーションの秘密, Mochibēshon no Himitsu, "Secret Motivation") is the three hundred and ninth chapter of Initial D.

Plot[]

Sakamoto approaches Takumi, asking to speak with him.

Wataru is impressed by Keisuke's skill in the rain, as he understands first-hand how tough wet roads can be on turbocharged cars.

Sakamoto tells Takumi that he's driven an Eight-Six before, and is impressed that he's managed to get so far in one. Takumi tells him that it's the only car he's driven, which surprises him. Sakamoto asks him what his motivation is.

Keisuke is able to keep up with the Levin through the turns.

Sakamoto says that while his car greatly outmatched the Eight-Six, Takumi won with something extra, a sort of fighting spirit. He asks how he can be so motivated during a race, as he doesn't feel the same energy from him now, outside of the car. Takumi misunderstands, thinking that he is talking about being scared, but Sakamoto tells him only amateurs pretend to be unafraid during a race. He says only professionals have the kind of motivation that Takumi does, and that it shows in his driving. Takumi is surprised.

The first round of the uphill ends with both racers neck and neck, so the battle continues into its second round, with Keisuke now leading.
