By A Hair's Breadth (間一髪, Kanippatsu, "Hair's Breadth") is the four hundred and eighty-eighth chapter of Initial D.

Plot

Takumi and Mika take the Tomei Expressway home. Mika is happy with her tan, and comments that Takumi's face seems sunburned. A pickup truck overtakes them on the right, as a minivan ahead of them pulls into the rightmost lane, not seeing the pickup in its blind spot. The two cars collide, causing the minivan to spin out left towards the Impreza. Takumi moves out of the way to the right, and the minivan is hit by a van that was behind them. With the pickup truck, which had span out to the right, now ahead of him, Takumi moves back to the left to avoid colliding with it, leaving it on a collision course with a following sedan. Successfully having avoided a crash, Takumi pulls away as if nothing had happened. A shocked Mika is amazed that Takumi was able to avoid so many cars, and asks how he managed to do it, but he isn't able to explain it.

That evening, Bunta drives the Eight-Six on Akina's downhill.
