The Opening Stretch (序盤戦, Joban Sen, "Opening Phase") is the four hundred and ninety-seventh chapter of Initial D.
Plot[]
At Lake Akina, Ken asks Bunta when he's going to make Takumi move on from street racing, which Bunta finds ironic, given their shared youth on the mountain passes. Ken says there is no point racing anywhere but on the circuit, and that if he won't teach Takumi that, Kai will. Bunta says that Takumi can do whatever he wants, and that it isn't either of their business.
Keisuke tells Kenta that Nagao has three distinct sections; the wide section nearest the top where it is easy to build up speed, the middle section which is full of tight corners, and the bottom part where the road is narrow but wide enough to gain some speed. He believes the third section is where the race will be decided, as Takumi will need to go all out in that section to pull off a win. Keisuke notes something spooky about the course, and wonders if they'll be able to see it during the race.
