Initial D Official Guidebook Dori Dori Driver's Text[]

『頭文字D 公式ガイドブック ドリドリドライバーズテキスト』(“Inisharu D kōshiki gaidobukku doridoridoraibāzutekisuto”) was a guidebook for the series released on August 6th 1996. Dori is a shortening of Dorifuto, the Japanese word for drifting, so the title roughly reads "Drift Driver's Text". It features a short message from Shuichi Shigeno and an interview with Keiichi Tsuchiya.

『頭文字D 公式ガイドブック ドリドリドライバーズテキスト2』(“Inisharu D kōshiki gaidobukku doridoridoraibāzutekisuto 2”) was a guidebook for the series released on June 27th 1997. Same as with the previous volume, Dori is a shortening of Dorifuto, the Japanese word for drifting, so the title roughly reads "Drift Driver's Text". The book features a preview for the Paper Craft Book with card pages so the reader can create a model of the AE86. It also contains an interview with Shuichi Shigeno and Keiichi Tsuchiya.

『頭文字D 拓海のスーパードラテク77』(“Inisharu D Takumi no sūpādorateku 77”) was a guidebook for the series released on August 20th 1999. The book features explanations by Keiichi Tsuchiya of many of the techniques used in the series.

Initial D My Drive Note[]

『頭文字D My Drive Note』(“Inisharu D My Drive Note”) was a car diary for the series released on April 19th 2000. As the name suggests, it consist of a daily diary and notes section for you and your car, allowing you to log distance travelled and such.

Initial D Art Book[]

『頭文字D 画集』(“Inisharu D gashū”) was an art book for the series released on July 25th 2001. It contains a lot of artwork from the series, as well as a long interview with Shuichi Shigeno. A special edition was released that came in a larger box containing a copy of the book, several stickers, two figures, one of Ryosuke Takahashi and the other of Keisuke Takahashi, and a small Tomica model of Takumi's AE86.

Initial D the Legend of Project D[]

『頭文字D プロジェクトD伝説』(“Inisharu D purojekuto D densetsu”) was a guidebook for the series released on March 5th 2004. It features information about Project D's battles up until the Tsuchisaka Lancer Evolution Team.

Initial D THE MOVIE Official Visual Book[]

『頭文字D THE MOVIE 公式ビジュアルBOOK』(“Inisharu D THE mūbī kōshiki bijuaru BOOK”) was a guidebook for the 2005 live action Initial D film released on September 12th 2005. The book features a comparison between the film and the original manga, several interviews with the stars of the film (Jay Chou, Edison Chen, Shawn Yue and Anthony Wong) as well as special interviews with Shuichi Shigeno and Hideki Tanabe.

『ANIMATION 頭文字D ALL ABOUT THE BATTLE』(“Animēshon Inisharu D ōru ABOUT THE BATTLE”) was a guidebook for Initial D Fourth Stage released on August 4th 2006. It includes descriptions of all of the battles in Fourth Stage, as well as information about the cars.

Aime Cards[]

Aime (アイミー) is an Japanese arcade system run by SEGA. Aime cards allow players to save their data, as well as allowing prepayment, by topping up the card with money. Initial D Arcade Stage Zero and Initial D The Arcade both use Aime cards, replacing the previous card systems used on the earlier games. There have been several unique Aime cards for these games, with designs based on the series.

Models, Figurines and Toys[]

AUTOart[]

Hong Kong based diecast model car line AUTOart developed 1/18 detailed model car replicas. One of their first models is a replica based on the "Project D Final Version" of Takumi Fujiwara's Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE86). It features an opening hood, opening lights, doors, as well as a trunk. During the release of Initial D Legend 1: Awakening, AUTOart released detailed replicas of Takumi Fujiwara's AE86 and Keisuke Takahashi's Mazda RX-7 FD3S. One of the features of Takumi Fujiwara's AE86 is that it also comes with tofu that can be removed out of the car's trunk. AUTOart would later release a model of Takeshi Nakazato's Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) during the release of Initial D Legend 2: Racer.

To promote Initial D Legend 3: Dream Aizu Project created a 1/6th scale figure of Mako Sato in a bikini. It comes in three variants, Black, White and Blue. Each version has a removable bikini top.

Carrera[]

Slot car manufacturer Carrera Digital 132 produced four slot cars that also came with the characters from the Initial D show. The slot car had two separate figures; one which is driving the vehicle, the other being a separate display piece.

Hot Wheels[]

Initial D collaborated with Hot Wheels to create a replica of Takumi Fujiwara's Toyota AE86 that was only exclusive in Japan. The toy was not sold in stores, but was given out to those who collected all 24 cardboard sleeves that came with each volume of the 2020/21 two-in-one release of the manga. Hot wheels version has different rims. Instead of using RS Watanabe 8-spoke lookalike rims, they were used 6-spoke TE37 rims.

Jada Toys[]

Tokyopop made a deal with Jada Toys to create a line of licensed diecast cars, which are 1/64 and 1/24 scale and action figures based on the show. Following Tokyopop's bankruptcy, Jada, through the Hollywood Rides toy line, made a 1/24 scale replica of Takumi's AE86 that came with a figure of Takumi Fujiwara. It also made a 1/32 scale replica of Takumi's AE86 as well.

In 2022, Casio announced that they would be releasing an MF Ghost x Initial D variant of their Edifice watch, known as the ECB-2000MFG-1A. It is primarily MF Ghost themed, though it features the sound effects used in both series, as well as the Fujiwara Tofu Store decal from the Eight-Six.[1]

Yabushita[]

In 2023, Yabushita announced that they would be releasing a pair of Initial D branded glasses. The glasses feature the Fujiwara Tofu Store decal, as well as the "D" from the Initial D logo. The glasses came in a branded box, and came with a cleaning cloth featuring art from Initial D Legend 1: Awakening.[2]

Collaborations[]

Initial D X Shibukawa[]

As part of the series' 25th Anniversary event in 2020, they collaborated with the city of Shibukawa, Gunma, where a lot of the early series is set. The city ran several promotions, a majority of which featured art by the artist Yokoyama-ai. Due to the success of the promotion it was extended past the 25th anniversary and continued into 2021.

Promotions included a digital stamp rally, manhole covers with Initial D themed designs and Initial D themed bus liveries.[3]

Oginoya[]

In collaboration with Initial D, Oginoya has released several Initial D themed designs for their "Touge no Kamameshi" bowls, with paper lids featuring designs from the series. A majority of these designs feature Mako Sato, as she and Koichiro Iketani met for the first time near a Kamameshi billboard.

Shuichi Shigeno Original Art Exhibition[]

For Shuichi Shigeno's 40th anniversary as a Mangaka, a art exhibit was held at the Seibu Gallery in Seibu's Ikebukuro branch. The event showcased art work from across Shigeno's career, most prominently Bari Bari Densetsu, Initial D, and MF Ghost. A variety of merchandise for all three series was sold at the event.[4]
