Dr. Toshiya Joshima's Honda S2000 (AP1), known simply as the S2000 or the S2K, is the signature vehicle of Purple Shadow veteran Dr. Toshiya Joshima.

History[]

Toshiya Joshima was a veteran member of the Ibaraki based team Purple Shadow. He was nicknamed God Hand (also the Arm of God) for his ability to control his car at an expert level while only having one hand on the wheel, with the other on the gear stick.

During Project D's visit to the Tsukuba Fruits Line, Joshima and his fellow Purple Shadow veteran Kozo Hoshino choose to battle against Project D's racers themselves. Joshima is set to go up against Takumi Fujiwara on the downhill. Takumi begins the first round in the lead, with Joshima following behind. Joshima manages to stay with Takumi until the end of the course, with the race continuing into a second run. With Joshima in front, Takumi is finally able to see Joshima's ability to change the best racing line, however he manages to keep up to Joshima.

The battle continues into its sixth run, with Takumi still being shocked by Joshima's line. As the sixth run ends, the two teams call for a small break so that the cars can be refuelled. Joshima reveals to Hoshino that he is trying his hardest to outrun Takumi, but he is unable to do so. The battle enters its seventh run, with Takumi in the lead. With Joshima's plan to confused Takumi having worked, he decides to make his move, cutting over a shoulder at the side of the road, which allows him to come alongside Takumi and overtake him. Joshima tries to pull ahead, but Takumi manages to keep with him. Not admitting defeat Takumi uses gutter techniques and his Blind Attack to catch up with Joshima and overtake, forcing Joshima to place both of his hands on the steering wheel at the same time.

The race continues into the eighth run, with Joshima in the lead. Joshima manages to slowly pull away from Takumi, causing him to become panicked. In an attempt to catch up with Joshima, Takumi performs another gutter technique, however his suspension is hit by something in the road, causing it to break. This mechanical failure leads to Takumi losing the race, however Joshima has to pull over to vomit due to the heat, allowing Takumi to pass him and cross the finish line first. Despite Takumi crossing the line first, both Takumi and Joshima know that Joshima would've won the race (due to him being ahead and Takumi's broken suspension), something backed up by Project D leader Ryosuke Takahashi. After the battles, Takumi asks Joshima if he could take him on a run on the Fruits Line so that he can see his technique, something that Joshima happily accepts.
