Kai Kogashiwa's Toyota MR-S S-Edition (ZZW30), often known simply as the MR-S or by its chassis code "ZZW30", is the signature vehicle of professional racer and Team Katagiri member Kai Kogashiwa
History[]
At some point after his defeat by Takumi Fujiwara on the Nikko Irohazaka, Kai Kogashiwa becomes a professional racer, joining the pro racing team Katagiri. He returns his father's car to him and begins using a third generation MR2, the MR-S.
During Project D's Kanagawa expedition Kai and his fellow Katagiri member Hideo Minagawa act as the second wall of defense under the name Racing Team Katagiri Street Version (The Team Katagiri Street Racers in the ComiXology version), with Kai finally being able to get payback on Takumi for his defeat on Irohazaka. Kai leaves his position up to chance, tossing a coin to decide whether to lead or chase. With the coin landing tails, Kai starts the race as the chaser. Takumi manages to keep his lead, with Kai slowly falling behind as Takumi speeds up, much to Kai's surprise. Kai pushes his car to its limits, trying to reduce the gap between him and his opponent. Kai tries to enter a corner at the same speed as Takumi but spins out after realizing he would crash. Although he manages to recover, he ended up getting left behind.
