Initial D Wiki

Wataru Akiyama's Toyota Corolla Levin GT-APEX (AE86) (occasionally known as the Eight-Six Turbo, or the Levin Turbo) is the second Toyota AE86 introduced in Initial D. It is owned by Wataru Akiyama, a lone racer who later joins his cousin Nobuhiko as part of the Northern Saitama Alliance.

History[]

As a solo racer[]

Wataru comes to Gunma with his sister, Kazumi, when she gets a job with their aunt. Wataru drives himself and Kazumi out to Akagi to witness the battle between Ryosuke Takahashi and Kyoichi Sudo. Wataru initially wishes to challenge the Akagi RedSuns, travelling to Akagi and challenging Keisuke Takahashi in person, a challenge that is declined due to the RedSuns policy of not racing on their own course. Not wishing to leave empty-handed, Wataru ambushes Keisuke as he and Kenta Nakamura attempt to leave, forcing him into an impromptu battle. This battle ends in a tie due to a racer having crashed his car. After hearing about an unbeaten Eight-Six in Gunma from Keisuke, Wataru is interested in meeting the driver, and asks Itsuki Takeuchi (who is friends with Kazumi) if he knows about this legendary Eight-Six, with Itsuki saying that he can put the two of them in touch. During a meeting that evening, Wataru becomes offended when Takumi implies that the engine in his Eight-Six is bad, when it is in fact a racing engine. After helping Takumi break the metaphorical "seal" on his engine by getting him to upgrade his instrument board, he challenges Takumi to a race on the course of his choosing. Takumi chooses Wataru's home course, the Shomaru Pass in Saitama, as the location of their battle. After five laps, Takumi manages to overtake Wataru by driving side by side with him (In Second Stage this is changed to Takumi driving on a mudslide, sending his car airborne.). After the race, Wataru and Kazumi return home to Saitama.

Northern Saitama Alliance[]

During Project D's Saitama expedition, Wataru helps his cousin, Nobuhiko, with his plan to beat Project D. He joins the Northern Saitama Alliance, Nobuhiko's team, as their uphill racer for their second set of battles against Project D. In the time between his race with Takumi and joining the Northern Saitama Alliance, he had upgraded his car, fitting it with a supercharged 4A-GZE engine. Wataru goes up against Keisuke, the two of them finally being able to have an official race. Their rainy uphill battle lasts for two laps, with Wataru slipping on a grate during the second lap while adjusting his windscreen wipers., causing him to spin out and lose the race. Wataru later travels to Lake Akina, where Takumi thanks him for helping him with his 4WD complex. Wataru's Levin appears one last time when he helps Project D deal with their impostors.

Specs[]

The car is a zenki (an early model) Toyota Corolla Levin GT-APEX 3door hatchback, chassis code AE86. It is painted in High-Tech Two-Tone, a black and white "panda style" colour scheme.

Engine[]

Original[]

The Levin was originally fitted with a 4A-GEU, with a bolt-on turbocharger attached. The engine made 280PS[1].

Replacement[]

When his original engine broke down, Wataru replaced it with a 4A-GZE, a supercharged version of the 4A-GE that was found in certain AW11, AE92 and AE101 models. He had originally intended to get a 20v 4A-GE, but eventually settled on the 4A-GZE.

Wataru's 4A-GZE was modified with Tool Box Super Charger Kit[2][3].

The exact figure is not stated, but it made just over 200PS[4].
