Green Departure (旅立ちのグリーン, Tabidachi no gurīn) is an extra chapter of Initial D. It follows Mako Sato meeting Koichiro Iketani again. It was adapted into Initial D Extra Stage 2.
Plot[]
At the gas station in Shibukawa, shortly after Project D had began, Kenji tells Iketani that he needs to move on from Mako, as he isn't yet over her. Kenji suggests he tries to get in contact with her again, but Iketani thinks it is too late for him to call her, and doubts she is still single.
The next day Iketani and his mother head to a family memorial ceremony. They stop at a service area on the Kan'etsu expressway so that his mother can use the toilet, and Iketani becomes jealous of the couples going on trips over the public holidays. He is surprised when Sayuki taps him on the shoulder from behind. She tells him she wasn't sure if it was really him because of his suit, and beckons Mako over. Mako and Iketani both awkwardly greet each other. Sayuki enquires about Takumi and the others, saying she has been keeping up with the Project D website. Iketani apologises to Mako for not getting to their meeting place on time, as he left late and there was traffic. Sayuki tells him that Mako waited until 10 for him, and he is shocked to know they missed each other by mere minutes. Iketani's mother approaches him, telling him they'd best hurry, and he shoos her away. Iketani stammers to Mako that he wishes he had more time to talk to her, but she tells him that she'll be waiting for him to call. Iketani blanks out while returning to his car, and he and his mother are late to their service.
The next day, Kenji is shocked to hear that Iketani ran into Mako. Iketani thinks an ancestor must have given him another chance, and he refuses to make the same mistake he made before. Kenji is happy for him.
The next day at the gas station, Takumi turns up to get some fuel. Iketani enquires about Project D, and Takumi tells him that they've got another battle coming up, but he struggles to remember the name. Iketani wishes him luck, and Takumi notices that Iketani is in a good mood, and wonders if something had happened.
On Usui, Mako practices in the SilEighty. She is unable to come to a decision.
