Green Departure (Part 3) is an extra chapter of Initial D. It follows Mako Sato meeting Koichiro Iketani again. It was adapted into Initial D Extra Stage 2.
Plot[]
Iketani speeds through the curves, but hits his tire on a rock, causing it to burst. Without a spare or his phone he has no way of getting in contact with Mako or fixing his car.
In Yokokawa, Mako waits for him, and worries that he may have forgotten.
Desperate, Iketani runs down the mountain, while looking for a phone.
Finally, 40 minutes after they had agreed to meet, Iketani manages to call Mako, who agrees to come and pick him up. He apologises, but Mako is just happy they could meet, asking what it was he wanted to tell her. He can no longer bring himself to confess how he feels, and asks what she had wanted to tell him. She tells him that she has decided to move to Tokyo.
At a parking spot, Mako explains that a publisher had put up some money to have some newcomers enter into races and then give their thoughts for a magazine. She had entered and had been picked, which amazes Iketani. She says it would only be stock cars, but that it would cost a lot of money, and she doubts she'll get another chance. She says she had to tell him because without him she would have quit racing, but Iketani brushes it off. He congratulates her and wishes her luck. She asks him again what he had wanted to ask, but he lies and said he had only wanted to apologise for last time. He asks Mako to drop him somewhere with a phone, so he can get his car towed.
At Lake Akina, Kenji is shocked to hear that Iketani had just walked away without confessing. Iketani says he didn't want to get in the way of her plans, and says that he will root for her instead. Kenji asks him if he's sure he won't regret it, and he says that he wont.
In Karuizawa, Sayuki is surprised that Iketani had been so cold to Mako, and she thought he liked her. Mako considers it a weight off her mind, as now she can go to Tokyo with nothing holding her back, which she imagines is the reason Iketani hadn't said anything. Sayuki wishes her luck in Tokyo, but she laments the end of Impact Blue.
The narrator says that Mako and Iketani won't ever meet again, despite their mutual feelings. The sad ending brings the start of a new chapter to both their lives.
