Initial D Arcade Stage 6 AA (頭文字D Arcade Stage 6 AA, Inisharu D Arcade Stage 6 AA), also known as Initial D Arcade Stage 6 Double Aces, is a 2011 racing arcade game developed by Sega AM1 and published by Sega Corporation. It is the first game in the series to be developed on Sega's RingEdge hardware, following the previous two games, which were built on the Sega Lindbergh arcade system. It is the sixth game in the Initial D Arcade Stage series and the fifteenth video game to based on the the Initial D series.
The game was revealed at the 48th Amusement Machine Show on September 9, 2010, at Sega's booth, where many of the game's new additions and changes were announced compared to Initial D Arcade Stage 5.[6]
In addition to the Legend of the Streets story mode, Time Attack, and Online Battle, a new Tag Team Battle mode was introduced, allowing players to compete in 2v2 battles.[7] Players can form a tag team with others using nearby cabinets in the same arcade, with each player taking on either an uphill or downhill section of the course. The battle begins simultaneously for both players. During the race, players collect "A (Ace) Panels" floating on the course to earn Tag Scores. There are two types of A Panels: gold and silver.[8] The combination of panels collected by both players affects the final score, with matching panel colors yielding higher points. The winner is determined by the Tag Score at the end of the battle. In Tag Team Battle, players can also compete against other tag teams nationwide.[6] Additionally, the Online Battle mode was updated to support international battles against players from the Asian export versions of the game.[9][10]
The driving physics have been reworked, along with an updated drift gauge and tachometer to help players determine whether they are drifting.[11] New rivals have been added to the Legend of the Streets story mode, including Young Takumi Fujiwara, Go Hojo, Rin Hojo, Hiroya Okuyama, and Ryuji Ikeda.[9]
Three courses were added: Usui Pass and Akina (Snow), which previously appeared in Arcade Stage Ver. 3, and the new addition of Sadamine (both Akina Snow and Sadamine were added in updates). Several new vehicles were also introduced. The base game included the Honda NSX (NA1), Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR (CZ4A), and Nissan Fairlady Z Version S (Z33). Later updates added the Nissan GT-R (R35), Toyota FT-86 G Sports Concept, and Toyota Prius S Touring Selection (ZVW30).[6][9]
