Initial D Extra Edition ~ Black Lightning - New Undefeated Legend (「頭文字D」番外編~「黒い稲妻・新たなる不敗伝説」, `Inisharu D' bangai-hen ~`kuroi inazuma aratanaru fuhai densetsu') is an Initial D CD Audio Drama released in 1999. It focuses on Takeshi Nakazato, and his rematch with Eikichi Shimamura. It is canon to the anime.

Plot[]

The Narrator announces their guest, Takeshi Nakazato, Myogi's Number 1 racer. Shingo argues with the narrator, saying that because Nakazato lost to the Eight-Six he can't be the number 1. The narrator points out that Shingo also lost, which Shingo ignores, arguing that because the R32 is so powerful Nakazato had no excuse for losing. Nakazato appears, and says that the R is the symbol of Invincibility.

On Myogi, Nakazato and Shingo are doing practice runs to determine which of them is faster. Mako and Sayuki show up and spectate as Shingo beats Nakazato's course record. Nakazato decides to give it another go, and Shingo tells him that even if he beats his record he'll just set another. Mako and Sayuki show up at the finish line and greet the two drivers.

At the Esso Gas Station, Itsuki tells Takumi about how the NightKids are fighting for the teams Number 1 title. Takumi is uninterested, so Itsuki speaks with a customer about Myogi. The customer tells him that Impact Blue were on Myogi the night before, and Itsuki decides that he has to report this to Iketani.

Back on Myogi, Nakazato beats Shingo's course record by a fraction of a second. Shingo says that these time trials are a waste of time, and that the two of them should just have a battle instead. Nakazato tells him that he isn't interested, and Shingo says that he's just scared. He says that Nakazato only drives an R32 because it makes winning easy, that he couldn't win in another car, and Nakazato mocks Shingo for his "cowardly" battles. Sayuki and a member of the NightKids break up Shingo and Nakazato squabbling. Nakazato tells Shingo that he did used to race in another car, an S13 he used to drift with before he got into an accident. Nakazato asks to borrow a fellow NightKids' S13, and offers to race Shingo, telling him that he will out run him. Mako and Sayuki decide to follow them down the course, and observe the race. Nakazato begins drifting early on, and thinks to himself that drifting is meaningless.

Nakazato has a flash back to almost two years prior. Eikichi Shimamura arrives at Myogi, and challenges Nakazato to a battle. Nakazato is incredibly confident in his skills, saying he is the fastest in the area. The race begins, and Shimamura quickly begins to get away from Nakazato. Nakazato starts to panic as the gap gets larger and larger.

Back to the current day, Nakazato says that he can still vividly see the GT-R badge on Shimamura's car in front of him. Shingo is shocked by how fast Nakazato is in the S13. At the finish line, Mako and Sayuki tell Nakazato how impressed they are by his driving, and ask him why he decided to switch to the R32. He tells them that you can't just go on skill, you need a car with high performance.

Later, Mako and Sayuki talk about Nakazato declining Shingo's offer to race being odd. Mako suggests it's because he's afraid to lose on his home course again, after so many defeats.

Back at the gas station, Itsuki tells Iketani and Kenji what he had learned earlier. Iketani begins to lose it after hearing Mako's name. The SpeedStars decide to head to Myogi.

At Myogi, the SpeedStars wait for the NightKids to start racing, and Itsuki accidentally sets Iketani off by mentioning Mako.

At a café, Mako, Sayuki and Shingo talk about Nakazato. Sayuki and Mako express interest in tracking down Shimamura so that Nakazato can get his confidence back. Shingo says he's not interested, and when Sayuki says they're friends he says that they're nothing more than teammates. Shingo goes to leave but stops as his drink arrives, leading to him downing it in one and choking on it. Shingo tells them that they're butting into Nakazato's business, and that if he stopped racing that would be fine by him.

Later, Shingo has a change of heart, and calls Sayuki telling her to look for someone called Koji Yoshitake. He explains that he used to race with Nakazato. Sayuki and Mako head to Koji's father's store looking for him. They find him and explain their situation. Koji tells them that he remembers Shimamura, but that he wouldn't know where he was now. He remembers that his R32 had a Sagami plate, meaning he was from Kanagawa Prefecture. Sayuki decides to search for information on the internet, to see if she can find out where he is now.

Mako and Sayuki figure out that Shimamura is from Hakone, and go to tell the NightKids. Nakazato is hesitant to race, but after Shingo calls him a coward in front of Mako and Sayuki he changes his mind.

The four arrive at Hakone, and Shingo points out how many R32s are present on the mountain. Nakazato spots the R32 that beat him, and goes to challenge him. Shimamura doesn't recognise Nakazato, but once he introduces himself he remembers the team. Shimamura asks if he got an R32 after losing to him, which Nakazato said he did, and that he's thankful for losing to him for that. Shimamura agrees to race, on the condition that if Nakazato loses he has to get rid of his car. Nakazato is shocked, and Sayuki tries to butt in and defend him, but he tells her to stop. He accepts the condition, and tells him that he wont lose. The race begins with Shimamura in the lead. Nakazato thinks to himself that because they're both driving the same car now, the race will be entirely based on skill. Shimamura's tires start to give out, and Nakazato is able to overtake from the inside. He says because of the battle with the Eight-Six all he can think about is the condition of his tires. Shingo and Sayuki congratulate him on his victory. Nakazato says he won't lose anymore for Sayuki's sake, much to her shock. She turns him down.

Back at the gas station, Itsuki tells Iketani and Kenji that Nakazato got turned down by Sayuki. Itsuki and Iketani celebrate, saying that they've gained a comrade. The drama ends with Nakazato saying that racers don't need girls.
