Initial D Second Stage (頭文字D Second Stage, Inisharu D Second Stage) is a 1999-2000 Japanese anime television series and the second installment in the anime adaptation of the Initial D manga by Shuichi Shigeno. The stage adapts Chapter 78 to 145 of the manga (Volumes 8 to 13) and serves as a continuation of Initial D First Stage. It originally aired on Fuji TV from October 1999 to January 2000, spanning 13 episodes, and was animated by Pastel and directed by Shin'ichi Masaki.
From this stage onwards cars carry the official brands and logos, as the series now had permission to use them (whereas they didn't with First Stage). Cars also now have proper license plates.
Summary[]
Team Emperor, a Lan Evo team from Tochigi, known for taking the decals of racing teams they defeat, has arrived with the goal of crushing every team in Gunma.
It doesn’t take them long to encounter a formidable challenge: the downhill legend known as "Akina’s Eight-Six".
However, Takumi Fujiwara’s AE86 is virtually no match for the more powerful and agile four-wheel-drive Lan Evos of the Emperors. Just when things seem dire, the Red Suns step in. Who will win?

Anime and Manga Differences[]
- Takumi, Natsuki, and Tsukamoto's visit to Akagi does not appear.
- In the anime, Natsuki applies for a job at Fast Burger, whereas in the manga, she applies to work at Yuichi's Gas Station.
- In the manga, Natsuki and Papa are seen exiting a Love Hotel when Takumi witnesses the event. In the anime, the scene is toned down, with the setting changed to the FamilyS restaurant.
- The witness to Keisuke's impromptu battle against Wataru differs between the anime and manga. In the manga, Tsukamoto observes the race, whereas in the anime, a member of Thunder Fire serves as the witness.
- In the manga, Takumi's battle with Wataru on Shomaru Pass takes place without any spectators.
