Initial D Second Stage: Fastest Typing in Kanto Project (頭文字イニシャルD Second Stage ~タイピング関東最速プロジェクト~, Inisharu D Second Stage ~Taipingu Kantō Saisoku Purojekuto~) is a 2001 typing-based video game developed and published by e-frontier for Microsoft Windows and Classic Mac OS. The game is the sequel to Initial D: Ryosuke Takahashi's Fastest Typing-theory.

The game features battles from Initial D Second Stage, with typing segments integrated into the gameplay. Players take on the roles of Takumi Fujiwara in his respective races from the stage, as well Keisuke Takahashi in his battle against Seiji Iwaki which is an anime exclusive and was later released in Initial D Battle Stage. Along with Ryosuke Takahashi in his battle against Kyoichi Sudo.[2]

The game was later included in the Initial D Typing Memorial Pack.

Gameplay[]

The game features two main game modes: "Practice" and "Battle".[4]

Practice Mode[]

Practice Mode helps players familiarize themselves with basic keyboard setup, including finger positioning, key locations, and keyboard rows. It includes specific exercises for right-hand typing, left-hand typing, and typing with both hands. Ryosuke Takahashi provides explanations on how to perform these basic functions. Additionally, each section includes practice games where players must type out characters accurately and quickly to reveal a picture puzzle.

Battle Mode[]

Battle Mode consists of five races from Initial D Second Stage, each referred to as a Stage. During Stages, battle footage is shown while players must type out the text displayed on the screen to progress. This game features a refined battle system compared to its predecessor, introducing new mechanics such as a speedometer, and a gear system. As players correctly type each sequence, the speedometer increases, and once full, the gear shifts up.

Each question has a time limit bar that decreases over time; if the player fails to answer before it runs out, they lose progress. The screen also displays the number of questions answered and the remaining questions for the race.

There is a "Spirit Gauge" in the top right corner that decreases when errors are made. If the gauge fully depletes, the game results in a Game Over. Additionally, depending on the player's opponent, their team sticker is cut by the opponent after the battle concludes.

    • The CG footage used is identical to what is shown in Battle Stage, so the developers may have been offered it early as a sort of preview.
