Initial D Street Stage (頭文字D Street Stage, Inisharu D Street Stage) is a 2006 racing video game and a handheld console port of Initial D Arcade Stage Ver. 3. It was developed by Sega Corporation and Tose Software and published by Sega Corporation for the PlayStation Portable. It is the eleventh game to be based on the Initial D series.
The game was revealed on September 9, 2005, during a Consumer Business Strategy Presentation held by Sega, where the company showcased its planned releases for the second half of the year, along with the titles that would be featured at its exhibit booths at the 2005 Tokyo Game Show.[7] Initial D Street Stage had its own booth at the event and was scheduled for a winter release.[8]
Similar to Arcade Stage Ver. 3, the game retains the Legend of the Streets story mode and Time Attack mode. A new addition is the Bunta Challenge mode, which is initially locked but becomes unlockable later on. This mode allows players to face off against Bunta Fujiwara on various courses, with the difficulty increasing after each victory.[9] Additionally, a multiplayer mode has been added, utilizing the PlayStation Portable's built-in Ad Hoc mode, enabling two players to battle against each other on the same wireless LAN. The game also introduces a card collection system, where players can obtain collectible cards by meeting specific in-game conditions.[3][10] These cards feature characters, vehicles, courses, team stickers, volume covers, and upgrades, serving as the only method for modifying and upgrading vehicles in the game.[11]
Another notable feature is the inclusion of a Project D website within the game, where players can access illustrations, loading screens, movie scenes, course advice, character dialogue, and the game's Eurobeat soundtrack.[9] Voice acting is provided by the original anime cast, though it is only present during races and not in cutscenes.[10][12] The game removed Miki and the Akina Snow course, but all other characters, vehicles, and courses remain in the game.
A pre-order campaign was held for the game with people who pre-ordered the game would recieve a UMD titled Ryosuke Takahashi's Fastest UMD on Public Roads D-FILE which contains over 40 minutes of videos including promotional content for the band m.o.v.e, a trailer for Initial D Live Action Film, and other special video's.[13][14]
