Initial D The Arcade is a 2021 arcade racing game based on the Initial D series. It is the tenth Initial D arcade game, although it is separate from the Arcade Stage series. Unlike previous games, which used proprietary game engines, the game makes use of Unreal Engine 4.
Unlike the previous one-on-one experience of the Arcade Stage games, Initial D The Arcade features up to four players racing at any one time. Despite this, one-on-one battles are still available, with several appearing in the story. The game was also the first to use a different player avatar model as opposed to the same ones reused from Arcade Stage 4 to Arcade Stage Zero.
This game was first playable on the 23rd and 24th of July 2020, in its location test, or "Ignition". More information was revealed on the 11th of December 2020 in its first "official live broadcast". It was officially playable again from the 8th through to the 18th of January 2021 during its final test. The game had a second broadcast on the 19th of February 2021 before its nationwide release in Japan on the 25th of February 2021. An export edition was released in Asia starting from the 29th of July 2021.
On 25th February 2023, the official community Twitter account announced that it would be expanding the operation of the game into other countries. On 29th August 2023, the game was released in China with the collaboration between Sega and Wahlap. A location test was held at a convention before the official release. This includes a full Chinese localization of the game unlike the export version and login via WeChat's QR scanner instead of an Amusement IC card. However, the Chinese release runs separate from Sega's servers and uses an older version from season 2.
Players with a save file from Arcade Stage Zero on their Aime card were given continuous play rewards. These rewards include a full tune car ticket for each fully tuned car previously owned, titles based on the player's charisma level and fame, an Arcade Stage Zero avatar t-shirt and hoodie, avatar and dress up tokens based on the player's mileage. Players with a Sega World Driver Championship save file were given a t-shirt and hoodie and one full tune car ticket based on their driver level.
Game modes[]
6 game modes are available:

Owners of the machine will not be charged per play for the following game modes:

Story Mode[]
Unlike the Arcade Stage series, the player occasionally has to race with one or two extra drivers. Despite this, the player only needs to beat the main opponent or stay within a specified distance between the opponent in order to advance. Some missions will start the player off in the middle of the course. The character voice acting is absent in place for pop up text dialogue and manga panels which are not localized for export versions aside from the mainland China release, and cutscenes are shown with the manga filter applied. Levelling up the Story Mode rank will reward the players with tachometers featured in previous games.
Story[]
The story mode has 4 additional levels of difficulty after completing the chapter.

Instore battle gift campaigns allows players to gift other players rewards during the event period. Players can earn body colours by ranking up their Instore battle rank.

The game allows the player to have up to 3 cars in the active car slots. The game utilises a new car tuning system where the player has to play through story mode to earn tuning points to purchase upgrades. It takes 15 wins in story mode to full tune a single car. Unlike the first Touhou Project collab event, the play stamps for Flandre Scarlet and Sakuya Izayoi were distributed later on throughout the event. The special gamemode allowed you to verse the Two Guys from tokyo on Akina, Akagi and Irohazaka and two other drivers in later levels. Later on they introduced the VS two guys from Tokyo Awakening Arc which was a much difficult special gamemode. Due to the popularity of the event, Sega turned on bonus stamps which allowed players to earn 2 extra stamps every weekday.
A third collaboration took place from 21st December 2023 to 3rd April 2024. It adds 6 more Touhou Eurobeat songs, as well as vinyl wraps, under glows, chat stamps, titles, avatar pieces and meters based on Youmu Konpaku, Yuyuko Saigyouji and Yukari Yakumo.

It introduced the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS and the GR Supra RZ DB42, and added the course Odawara. Players are able to challenge four racers from MF Ghost: Kanata Katagiri, Shun Aiba, Mikhail Beckenbauer, and Moroboshi Sena. During the anime's airing period in 2023, the anime was promoted on the game's advert screen while the machine was vacant.

It adds 9 vocaloid songs, as well as acrylic stands, costumes, speedometers, vinyl stickers, under glows, titles, chat stamps, avatar background and start menu background based on Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin/Len and Megurine Luka. The event started on 22nd December 2022 and ended on 5th April 2023. The awakening arc for the Two Guys from Tokyo in the special gamemode did not return in this collaboration. Due to the popularity of the event, Sega turned on bonus stamps which allowed players to earn 2 extra stamps every weekdays.
Chunithm[]
On 10 May 2023, The Official Twitter account tweeted out an announcement of the collab between Initial D and Chunithm. Information has been provided over the course of 4 days from 14th May to 18th May following the start of the event. The event's includes chat stamps, keychains, 2 songs in each playstamps, acrylic stands, meters and costumes based on Chuni penguin and Shoni penguin. The playstamps were distributed from 18th May 2023 to 26th July 2023
Hot Version[]
On 22nd July 2023, the official twitter announced the collab between Initial D and Hot Version. Although complete cars are absent from the game, the collaboration event sold aero parts and body colour for the 4 cars featured for a limited time. Other parts like the bonnet, exhaust pipe etc. were permanent in the car customisation shop. Tachometer, avatar pieces, keychain, cup and titles can be obtained via the special gamemode. Instead of using your own car, the game restricts players to using a rental car system across the 4 categories: 4WD, FF, FR and indiscriminate. A limited time versus gamemode was held where players could verse NPC drivers up to Keiichi Tsuchiya at level 7-10. The rewards for clearing each level were full tune fragments, another start menu of Gunsai featuring the Hot Version cars, the Demon King tachometer and a title for reaching max level. A special aura was given out to the players who reached top 1000 of the special vs event's leaderboard, as well as avatar background based on the player's position in the leaderboard. The event started on 27th July 2023 and ended on 4th October 2023.
April Fools[]
2021[]
On 1st April 2021, The official Initial D The Arcade Twitter account posted a video of a 4 player battle with the story mode's manga filter applied. This feature can technically be enable via debug menu which is not present in the retail release.
2022[]
On 1st April 2022, The official Initial D The Arcade YouTube channel posted a video with a sightseeing bus (BUS-401) running Irohazaka in Time Trials. The vehicle's addition was later "cancelled" as the bus can block most of the road and visibility of behind cars driving behind it. The bus model was taken from a parking area on one of the courses.
2023[]
On 1st April 2023, A video was posted onto YouTube of a 4 player battle with a mini car modifier turned on. The reason given for not being added into the public release is that the cars can fall into the gutter on maps like Nagao.
