Ken Kogashiwa's Toyota MR2 G-Limited (SW20), often known simply as the MR2 or by its chassis code "SW20", was the signature vehicle of Kai Kogashiwa when he was a solo racer on Irohazaka.
History[]
Although this car was owned by Ex-racer Ken Kogashiwa, it was primarily driven by his son Kai. Ken trained his son to be a driver from a young age, with Kai becoming a kart driver. He eventually becomes a Midship specialist, driving his father's car. He becomes an expert on his local course, the Irohazaka downhill, which he drives through every day from his home near Lake Chuzenji.
Kai had set his eyes on the Irohazaka based team Emperor, aiming to defeat them. He defeated Seiji Iwaki on Irohazaka's downhill, and had planned to battle with Kyoichi Sudo until Sudo was defeated by Takumi Fujiwara. Kai traveled to the gas station in Shibukawa where Takumi works in order to challenge him. He also passes his father's rival, Bunta, while driving up Akina.
Takumi starts the battle in the lead, with Kai following behind. Kai makes use of a technique he learned from a father in the 33rd corner, jumping through the inside of the corner and landing in-front of his opponent. Kai uses this technique until Takumi manages to copy it, surprising Kai due to Takumi's inexperience. Takumi is able to take the lead after using a gutter run, coming alongside Kai with the two of them entering the second bridge side by side. The two go airborne, with Kai landing on a pile of leaves, slipping out and causing him to lose the race.
Kai would go on to join the professional team Katagiri, he would stop using his father's MR2, replacing it with a Toyota MR-S, a third generation MR2.
