Kodansha Ltd. (株式会社講談社, Kabushiki-gaisha Kōdansha) is a Japanese publishing company and one of the largest publishing firms in Japan. It is known for the publication of a wide range of literature, including manga, novels, magazines, and books. The company publishes several well-known manga magazines, such as Weekly Young Magazine and Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Kodansha was founded by Seiji Noma in 1911, and members of his family continue to serve as its owners, either directly or through the Noma Cultural Foundation.

The Initial D manga by Shuichi Shigeno was serialized in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Magazine, first releasing on the July 17, 1995 issue,[1] and concluding on July 29, 2013.[2] Kodansha compiled the series 719 individual chapters in forty-eight tankōbon volumes, released from November 6, 1995,[3] to November 6, 2013.[4]

Kodansha launched its subsidiary publishing branch, Kodansha USA, on July 1, 2008. The company is responsible for the localization, translation, publishing, and distribution of many of Kodansha's series in English including Initial D.

Weekly Young Magazine (刊ヤングマガジン, Shūkan Yangu Magajin) is a Japanese weekly anthology magazine published by Kodansha. It is responsible for serializing the Initial D manga doing so from 1995 Issue 30 to 2013 Issue 35 in its single-chapter form.[1][5]
