The Nissan 180SX is a fastback car based on the Nissan S13 chassis from the Nissan S platform. The 180SX was produced from 1989 to 1999.
Nissan 180SX Type II (RPS13)[]
The second iteration 180SX was released in 1991 and included several changes from the first model, including upgrading the engine to an SR20DET engine with 202 hp. The brakes were enlarged and limited-slip differential added and the front bumper and parts of the interior were also redesigned.
The second iteration had two trim levels: the Type I (standard), and the Type II (advanced).
Notable Users[]
- Kenji drives a 1991 Warm White Nissan 180SX Type II, which he uses as a member of the Akina SpeedStars.
- Tsukamoto drives a 1991 Red 180SX Type II.
- A black 180SX is shown racing Takumi Fujiwara's AE86 in a flashback sequence of one of Project D's first battles. It is also used as one of the vehicles for Seven Star Leaf.
- Many background vehicles in the Anime are 180SX Type II, reusing the model of Kenji's 180SX.
- One of the unknown racers who raced Takumi in the Eight-Five used a blue 180SX with a big wing.
- Several Thunder Fire members also drive 180SXs.
Nissan 180SX Type X (RPS13)[]
The second iteration had a facelift in 1994. The car remained mostly the same. Its trim levels were renamed to the Type R (standard) and the Type X (advanced).
The first three Arcade Stage games, as well Special Stage and Street Stage, use a Nissan 180SX Type X instead of a 180SX Type II. Kenji's car was represented as a Type X in these games, with the same applying to Tsukamoto's 180SX's appearance in Special Stage's story mode. It is unknown why this change was made, although the car was replaced with a Type II in Arcade Stage 4 and has stayed the same since.
Nissan SilEighty (RPS13)[]
The Nissan SilEighty is a modified version of the Nissan 180SX, where the front end is replaced with that of a Nissan Silvia S13. This modification was usually done when a 180SX was damaged, as the front end of a Silvia S13 was cheaper than that of a 180SX (likely due to the 180SX's headlights). Several "official" SilEighty's were produced by the auto shop Kids Heart in 1998, these are distinguishable by their "SilEighty" badges on each end.
The SilEighty isn't considered a vehicle of its own by any government, instead being considered a 180SX. The early Initial D Arcade Stage games list the SilEighty as a Nissan vehicle, however it is categorised as an "Initial D" brand vehicle in later games.
