Takumi Fujiwara's impromptu battle in Itsuki Takeuchi's AE85 is the sixth battle of Initial D.

Prior to the Battle[]

After Takumi's victory against Takeshi Nakazato (after the battle with Shingo Shoji in the Legends trilogy), an excited Itsuki buys an Eight-Six Levin to surprise his friends only for Yuichi to discover it is not an Eight-Six Levin but a mere Eight-Five Levin SR which resulted in everyone (except Takumi) bursting into laughter. An upset Itsuki embarrassingly leaves work in frustration but Takumi goes after him to not be ashamed and cherish the fact he now has his own car and can go anywhere he wants whereas Takumi has shared ownership of the Eight-Six with his father

To cheer Itsuki up from the misunderstanding, he and Takumi drive up Mt. Akina. Myogi NightKids members (Thunder Fire members in the anime) arrive and mocking Itsuki calling him a racer wannabe and the fact he has an Eight-Five. Takumi sticks up for Itsuki and chases down the racers in Itsuki's car.

During the Battle[]

As Takumi was chasing them, the racers initially thought it was some other random racer from Akina who they can easily outrun. After some corners, the S13's driver and passenger who was right behind the group was shocked to realize it was the same AE85 they mocked a few minutes ago. While Takumi tries to keep up with them he at the same time criticizes the faulty tires, faulty suspensions and weak acceleration due to which he couldn't keep up with them at the straights. Despite that, he was able to keep up with the two cars at corners and he finally overtakes them with the gutter run. Both cars go to a halt being shocked of Takumi's skill calling him a "ghost".

After the Battle[]

The following day, Itsuki now becomes attached to his car and attaching a SpeedStars sticker after Takumi drove skilfully in his car. He learns from Takumi that it's not the car that matters but its one's skill that counts. Yuichi now senses Takumi's ability to adapt to driving different cars.
