The impromptu battle between Takumi Fujiwara and Bunta Fujiwara is the thirtieth battle of Initial D.

Prior to the Battle[edit | edit source]

On his drive back home after a tofu delivery run, Takumi reflects on his battle against Tomoyuki Tachi and suddenly notices a flash of light in his rearview mirror. Realizing that a car was on his tail, he wondered whether to let the driver pass or not. After remembering the events that occurred yesterday and his pride on the Akina downhill, he decided to challenge the Impreza driver.

During the Battle[edit | edit source]

After a few turns, the Impreza did not falter or back off. Takumi realized that the Impreza is a "dangerous new challenger". Feeling threatened, he decided to make use of the gutter run at the five hairpins to out do his opponent.

As Takumi entered the ditch, he realized that the Impreza driver is doing the same thing. With his exit from the gutter run being wider than the Impreza and the opponent's technological superiority, the mysterious driver tore past him immediately after the gutter run, leaving a threatened and impressed Takumi. Arriving home, he tries to find Bunta, only to find out that he's not there.

After the Battle[edit | edit source]

Takumi began to realize that his AE86 is no longer the fastest car in the Akina downhill, mentally humbling him in a way that haunts him. He later finds out that his father, Bunta, was the driver of the Impreza. Because of this, Bunta had Takumi drive the Impreza occasionally on more Tofu deliveries as a lesson for him to learn the potential of modern cars and the characteristics of AWD.
