The Toyota 86 (or GT86, codename ZN6) is a series of 2+2 seater sports cars which was jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru and solely manufactured by Subaru. It features a boxer engine, front engine, rear wheel drive drivetrain, 2+2 seating and a fastback coupé body style.
The car is also known as the Subaru BRZ (codename ZC6) and in the United States as the Scion FR-S, the latter of which was discontinued in August 2016.
In Final Stage, near the ending, when Takumi drives his father's WRX, he witnessed a driver of an orange GT86 driving past him, with the car bearing the license plate "86-239" (hachiroku ni sankyu), which translates to "Thank you Eight-Six." In Initial D Legend 3, an orange GT86 pulls up to the gas station Takumi works at, with the driver resembling Takumi asking for high-octane. It's debadged. The same car is seen at the end of the movie, which Takumi sees and challenges whilst doing a tofu delivery. Later, the water spills and the screen turns to white. The plate of the car, 3-954, is a nod to Takumi's AE86 plate in the anime and manga (13-954).
In the manga MF GHOST, Kanata Livington drives a red GT86 to compete the MFG racing.
- In one of the promotional event posters for Initial D Arcade Stage 8 Infinity, Takumi was racing against a GT86 with the same license plate. This implies that Takumi was racing against his future self.
- The Toyota GT86 it is the only car of the 2010s years to have a prominent role in Initial D (except in the manga).
